Understanding the problem
New Jersey is a state riddled with many small problems, but the big ones are what must be dealt with. Possibly the biggest of all the issues that must be prevented would be child abuse in the state of New Jersey.
People always wonder how serious this problem is in our community. This is a bigger problem than most people think in our state and their have been many cases involving child abuse all throughout the state. Problems involving child Abuse have gotten more serious as years have progressed. It happens in all types of schools from elementary schools (Jersey autistic boy records teacher’s alleged abuse.), to the high school(Julio Artuz records teacher verbally abusing him) and to even the college level with the Rutger’s incident. These two cases are also both great examples of how certain people don’t see what consequences abusing a child or student can bring. New Jersey does have a law about child abuse, but despite the consequences in it people still choose to ignore it and abuse.
*Notice how this picture does not mention anything about child abuse in schools or in sports.*
A big Issue with all of this is how widespread this issue is all over the state. Child Abuse is happening all over the state not just in one specific area. IT happens in places like Cherry Hill, NJ in North Jersey( Jersey Autistic boy records teachers alleged abuse) all the way down to Sewell in South Jersey (Julio Artuz records teacher verbally abusing him). We Don’t want child abuse in our state but now we have to stop the spreading within the state in order to make a safer community. Who knows if we can prevent child abuse in just one part of our state we might start a chain reaction to stop this.
When discussing the topic of child abuse we cannot assume that it only occurs at home. There are plenty of incidences of child abuse in the classroom, that are never reported or known to anyone other than the teacher and students. There must be a way to keep people educated about suspecting and reporting child abuse in schools. In fact, federal data show that 10,440 children in the U.S. died from abuse and neglect between 2001 and 2007, but experts say the real number may be as many as 5,000 higher(Every Child Matters Education Fund). After educating people on reporting child abuse in schools the government should make weekly classroom checks on suspected
In the DCF, ( The Department of Children and Families) it states that if you think your child is being abused anywhere, you report it to the Division of Youth and Family Services by telephone according to the DCF, and an investigation will be launched. But it does not say that it is a law. That is a problem how they don't have a law against child abuse in schools. And since it is not a law the criminals could easily get away with abuse without a punishment. Some people might the that you can report abuse in schools, this is the reason why why should a law stating that child abuse is illegal, if the government fixes this problem will soon disappear.
Furthermore, there has not been much controversy in New Jersey about child abuse. Most people polled recognize that there is an issue regarding abuse in schools by teachers and coaches. Everyone can agree that this issue needs to be solved (poll about child abuse). It is clear that everyone believes multiple people are responsible from the children who are letting this happen to teachers and coaches who are the abusers. As the polls says, “There is abuse going on in schools and by coaches, this law is not doing much.” This is a clear example showing that everyone agrees that the law that is currently in place dealing with child abuse is not meeting expectations. There are no disagreements, obviously this issue needs to be handled. Child abuse in schools needs to disappear.
The prevention of child abuse has organizations, or individuals taking sides on the issue, to help stop it completely. A few major funds working towards ending child abuse, would be the Every Child Matters Fund, Prevent Child Abuse America, and the
International Society for the Prevention Child Abuse and Neglect (Every Child Matters Fund, Prevent Child America, Every Child Matters Education Fund, ISPCAN) Although many people working towards the end of child abuse are just completely average people with a dream, some famous people have taken part in the prevention of child abuse. Some celebrities are helping the cause are Jordin Sparks, Shaquille O’neal, Bill O’Reilly, Betty White, and John Stamos (Celebrities Give Back). Some people may say, “ Why help these kids?” These celebrities are all very talented people, and to speaking in front of people. These celebrities either donate to organizations, give speeches against child abuse,or even perform to raise money for the prevention of child abuse. Although the clear correct side to pick would be fighting against child abuse, there are some disadvantages. An obvious disadvantage, would be finding real life examples where child abuse occurs. Fighting child abuse also has advantages, because so many people are trying to prevent child abuse any supporters of fighting the problem will have tons of support. Many local governments, such as towns and cities have funded organizations to prevent child abuse, but it would really benefit everyone if the issue was really brought to a national level. There should be a huge push made stop child abuse all across America, but there is the Child and Family Services where any abuse or neglect can be reported. Child abuse is an issue that has to be confronted, but without everyone working together it may never be stopped.
The board of education should be taking care of child abuse in schools. Then an investigation will be launched depending on how serious the matter is. This is what the school should be doing about cases about child abuse, schools should also start to create a program to help kids that have gone through it. Also they need to find a way to stop child abuse in schools. If the school does all of these things correctly then child abuse will be stopped and we will not have to deal with child abuse in schools anymore.
Although all these paragraphs really do explain how child abuse can be prevented that’s not all that’s needed. The most important component would be the people. If the people of New Jersey do not do their part and donate money, or take action in some way, nothing will happen. On the other hand, if the people do take action and confront this horrible, issue real changes will be seen, to end child abuse for good.
